Artist’s sketchbook :  Greer Lankton

For my project to emulate an artist and create a sketchbook of his work, I chose Greer Lankton, an artist whose work resonates deeply with me. Lankton is known for exploring themes of gender identity, addiction, and personal struggle, which I wanted to recreate in the sketchbook. I chose 1981 for the sketchbook and aged the pages with coffee to give it a worn, vintage look. To make the sketchbook more authentic, I added elements such as Greer's daily sketches, letters to her parents, diary entries, and consumer records. I also included a project she named “Androgynous,” which reflects her personal journey, as well as notes about her astrological hobbies and daily plans (such as visits to the hospital). I was pleased with the end result, as I believe her sketchbook might have been, I think I could have added more detailed elements. In the process, I learned a lot about Lankton's personal life, especially aspects that are not commonly reported in public, such as her interest in astrology. Through field trips to her online work, I gained a deeper understanding of her life and creative process, helping me to better understand her world and how she navigates it with her art.
